Slow Down to Look Up

Last night, I caught something magical through my window—the Northern Lights (aurora borealis), dancing across the sky in waves of soft green light. I’d missed any mention of it an, no alert pinged my phone. I just happened to glance up at the right moment.

It took my breath away. And not just because of the beauty—but because I almost missed it.

Northern Lights through a window in Orkney

For some reason I paused what I was doing, had a walk around and there it was—nature’s quiet reminder that not everything worth experiencing comes from hustle or force. It was good timing as I have just finished reading ‘Slow Productivity’ and am reminded that sometimes slowing down is the best way to accomplish. Ever had that brainwave of your lunchtime walk anyone?

Slowness isn’t laziness—it’s presence

In the online business world, it’s easy to get caught in the noise of urgency. Launch plans, email funnels, optimisation… all good things, but often delivered with a subtle pressure: Do more, be faster, stay ahead.

But what if some of our best insights, clearest decisions, and most connected moments actually arrive when we slow down enough to notice them?

The aurora reminded me of that. You can’t schedule it. You can’t manifest it with willpower. You have to create space, stillness, and a bit of darkness to see its light.

The wisdom of Slow Productivity

Cal Newport’s Slow Productivity has been a companion of mine lately. He writes about doing fewer things, working at a natural pace, and obsessing over quality—not quantity. It’s the kind of thinking that feels radical in a world obsessed with output. And yet, it’s deeply aligned with how I want to live—and how I want to help my clients build their businesses.

Slowness, in this context, isn’t passive. It’s powerful. It’s what allows you to notice misalignment before it turns into burnout. It’s how you make space for clarity, creativity, and genuine progress – not just movement.

Slow Productivity by Cal Newport

What slowing down made room for

That moment by the window didn’t just bring beauty. It gave me a reset. I breathed differently. I softened. I remembered that I’m building this business to support the whole me, not just the productive parts.

And I wanted to pass that reminder on to you:
🌿 You’re allowed to pause.
🌿 You’re allowed to look up.
🌿 You’re allowed to do things slower, deeper, and more intuitively.

Because magic doesn’t live in your inbox. It lives in the moments you almost missed.

P.S. I’d love to know—have you had a moment like that recently? One that brought you back to yourself? Let’s talk slowness, softness and business with soul.

When Learning Becomes Avoidance

Have you ever bought an online course, full of excitement and big intentions, only to leave it half-finished while you chase down another? You’re not alone. I have a confession to make – this is something I am massively guilty of, to the point that I have put off writing this post for a while as part of me just doesn’t want to stop. However….

A woman doing online courses on a laptop in a cafe

For many online business owners (ahem), learning is addictive. Courses feel productive. They promise clarity, results, and momentum. But at some point, learning becomes a form of procrastination. And the very thing that once helped you grow is now the thing keeping you stuck.

Let’s talk about it.

The Real Reason Your Business Isn’t Growing

If you’ve taken all the courses, downloaded all the freebies, and still aren’t seeing traction—it’s not because you need to learn more. It’s because you need help implementing what you already know.

Most businesses don’t fail because the founder lacks ideas. They fail because the founder is overwhelmed, alone, and stuck in the weeds.

Courses give you theory. What you need is execution.

How Over-Learning Holds You Back

Here are three signs your education habit is hurting your growth:

  • You’re solving the same problem over and over.
Every new course promises a fresh angle, but you’re not moving the needle.
  • You’re not implementing what you learn.
You’ve got pages of notes and zero action.
  • You’re too busy learning to lead.
Every hour spent in a module is an hour not spent building your business, leading your team, or serving your clients.

What You Need Instead: A OBM Mindset

A COO (another name for an Online Business Manager like me) doesn’t give you more information. They help you build.

They take your brilliant ideas and turn them into systems, processes, and action. They streamline your tech, set up your backend, and keep your projects moving forward.

In short? They turn possibility into progress.

The Shift From Student to CEO

It’s time to stop being a student of your business and start being the CEO of it.

That means:

  1. Saying no to the next shiny course
  2. Creating a clear plan for your offers and systems
  3. Delegating the things that drain your energy
  4. Getting real support that helps you implement

Final Thoughts

There is nothing wrong with learning. But if you’ve been in a cycle of course-consumption with no clear outcomes, it’s time for a new approach.

You don’t need more knowledge. You need someone in your corner who can turn your plans into progress.

You might just realise it’s not another course you need—it’s a COO.PS: If you’re ready to set up the systems and support to help your business grow with more ease and less pressure—I’d love to help. Let’s chat. Book a free discovery call and we’ll work out a plan to get you back into alignment.

Don’t Hustle: Why Your Business Is More Like a Garden Than a To-Do List

We live in a world that glorifies overnight success and constant hustle. But if you’re a heart-led entrepreneur, coach, or creative, you probably already know deep down—your business isn’t something to push. It’s something to nurture.

Nurture Your Business Like a Garden | Rymer Digital

Think of your business like a garden.

You don’t throw seeds in the soil and wake up the next day expecting a full harvest. You plant intentionally, water consistently, and trust the roots are growing, even when there’s nothing visible above ground yet.

Here’s how that translates into the way we grow a business:

1. Plant with Purpose

Every offer you create, system you set up, or relationship you build is a seed. But planting without a clear vision of the kind of business you want to grow can lead to overwhelm. Be intentional. Choose what you plant—and why.

2. Water It Regularly (Not Just When You Remember)

Showing up for your business consistently—even in small ways—is where the magic happens. It’s the email you send, the content you post, the process you refine. It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing what matters—regularly.

3. Let It Have Space to Grow

Growth doesn’t always look productive. Sometimes it looks like stillness. Like rest. Like “nothing” is happening—until suddenly it is. Don’t dig up your business by the roots every time you doubt yourself. Give it space, trust your groundwork, and allow it to grow in its own time.

4. Protect It From the Weeds

Distractions, comparison, perfectionism, shiny-object syndrome—those are your weeds. They choke progress and distract you from what you’re growing. Be mindful of what you allow into your garden.

5. Celebrate the First Shoots

That first sign of traction? That new client? That system that finally works smoothly? Those are your green shoots. Pause and notice them. They mean your efforts are working.

6. Prune and remove the dead wood

Sometimes plants grow too quickly and get overgrown. Sometimes they smother other plants and they aren’t right for our garden and space. Often 100s of seedlings germinate but we only want to select the strongest to pot on. We need to prune and remove the deadwood, move plants about and find the best places for them. This is where we see what’s working and lean in. We course correct and do less of what doesn’t work and more of what does.

You Don’t Have to Hustle to Bloom

Your business deserves to be grown with intention, care, and trust. Not everything will bloom at once—and that’s okay.

  • Keep planting.
  • Keep watering.
  • Keep trusting the process.

The growth will come.

How to Identify Work Practices That Align With You

Ever had that nagging feeling in your stomach that something about your work just isn’t right? Maybe it’s the exhaustion that doesn’t shift, or the low-key dread creeping in before another packed-out week.

Top down view of someone on a laptop with candles and flowers close by

That feeling? That’s misalignment. And no amount of productivity hacks or “just push through it” mentality is going to fix it.

The way you work—the structure, pace and systems—has to actually work for you. If it doesn’t, your business will start feeling like a never-ending to-do list instead of something that brings you joy and that sinking feeling in your stomach will start to have further reaching effects on your health. In the words of Bessel Van Der Kolk, the body keeps the score!

So how do you figure out what actually fits? Here’s where to start.

Most of us know that feeling—something about our work just isn’t right, but we push through anyway. Maybe it’s the creeping anxiety, the exhaustion that won’t shift, or the gut feeling we ignore in favour of what seems practical. I’ve been there myself, stepping into a job that looked great on paper but left me completely out of sync with what I needed to thrive. It took a toll—physically, mentally, emotionally. And that’s the thing—there’s no manual for this. No step-by-step guide on how to work in a way that truly fits you. But there is a way to figure it out, and that’s what we’re diving into today.

1. Check In With Your Values

Work should feel good—not just look good on paper. But if your daily habits are clashing with your core values, something is going to feel off.

Ask yourself:

  • What really matters to me in how I run my business? (Freedom? Stability? Creativity?)
  • Where do I feel resentment creeping in?
  • Am I making decisions from a place of alignment, or just prioritising what seems “practical” or “expected”?

I see this a lot with wellness entrepreneurs who built their businesses to help people—only to find themselves drowning in admin and tech instead of doing the actual work they love. If that’s you, something needs to shift.

2. Pay Attention to Your Energy

Not everyone thrives in a rigid 9-to-5, and not everyone can handle an open-ended “just go with the flow” approach either.

Think about:

  • When do I feel the most focused and energised?
  • When do I hit a wall?
  • What activities drain me vs. recharge me?

If you’re constantly forcing yourself into a schedule that doesn’t match your natural rhythm, you’re going to burn out fast. Maybe you’re a morning person trying to work late, or an introvert exhausting yourself with constant calls. Pay attention. Your body is already telling you what works.

3. Notice What Feels Heavy vs. Light

Some tasks fire you up. Others make you want to throw your laptop out the window.

Try this:

  • Make a list of everything you do in a week.
  • Highlight the ones that feel easy, fun, or rewarding.
  • Circle the ones that feel heavy, frustrating, or energy-draining.

See a pattern? If half your time is spent on things that make you miserable, it’s time to automate, delegate or scrap them entirely. You don’t have to do everything. You just have to do what moves the needle and feels good.

4. Set Boundaries That Actually Work

It’s one thing to know what aligns with you. It’s another to protect that alignment. Talking the talk is easy but walking the walk is a next level super power. This is perhaps the piece of work I find hardest.

  • Do you have clear working hours (or are you always “on”)?
  • Are you saying yes to things that make you groan inside?
  • Are you constantly over-delivering at the expense of your own well-being?
  • Boundaries aren’t just about saying no. They’re about saying yes to what actually serves you.

5. Give Yourself Permission to Change

Alignment isn’t a one-time decision. It’s something you have to check in with regularly.

  • What worked last year might not work now.
  • The “dream routine” that works for someone else might be a nightmare for you.
  • You’re allowed to tweak, refine and throw out what doesn’t fit.

I learned this the hard way when I took a corporate job after years of flexible, remote work. It ticked all the boxes logically, but my body told a different story—exhaustion, stress, and that deep knowing that I was forcing something that wasn’t right for me.

Turns out, no amount of mindful practises or treating myself to nice coffees  can fix misalignment. You just have to feel your way through it.

Final Thought

When you find the work rhythms, structures and systems that actually support you, everything flows better. You feel lighter. Clearer. Less resentful. More you.

5 Ways to Automate Your Business and Reclaim Your Time

Running a wellness business should feel… well, wellness-y. But if you’re spending more time on admin than actually doing the work you love, something’s got to change.

The good news? Automation is your new best friend.

Top down view of someone on a laptop with candles and flowers close by

By setting up simple systems that run on autopilot, we can free up time, reduce stress and focus on what really matters—whether that’s teaching, coaching or actually having a moment to yourself.

These are five ways I have found the best and quickest way to automate a business and get your time (and sanity) back.

1. Let Clients Book Themselves In

Stop the endless back-and-forth of “Are you free at 2pm?” emails. A booking system does the hard work for you.

With tools like Calendly, Acuity Scheduling or SimplyBook.me, clients can:

  • See your availability in real time
  • Book their own appointments
  • Receive automatic confirmations and reminders

No more diary juggling, no more missed sessions. Just a seamless, stress-free way to manage your time.

2. Automate Your Payments and Invoicing

If you’re still manually chasing invoices, the future is here. Platforms like Stripe, Square and GoCardless can:

  • Automatically take payments for classes, courses and memberships
  • Send instant invoices and receipts
  • Set up recurring payments for regular clients

Getting paid should be effortless—not another thing on your to-do list.

3. Create an Email Nurture Sequence

You don’t have to manually follow up with every new client or subscriber. An email nurture sequence does it for you.

Tools like MailerLite, ConvertKit and ActiveCampaign let you set up a series of emails that go out automatically when someone signs up.

For example, you could send:

  • A welcome email introducing yourself
  • A follow-up with tips or a free resource
  • A gentle nudge about your services or upcoming courses

It might sound daunting, but once it’s set up, it runs itself—building trust with your audience while you get on with your day.

4. Schedule Your Content in Advance

Posting on social media every day can feel like a full-time job in itself. The trick? Batch your content and schedule it in advance.

Tools like Meta Business Suite, Later and Planoly allow you to:

  • Plan and schedule posts across multiple platform
  • Auto-publish at peak times (so you don’t have to be online 24/7)
  • Keep your content consistent without the daily scramble

Set aside a couple of hours a month, schedule everything in one go, and let it roll out while you focus on your business.

5. Use Templates and SOPs for Repetitive Tasks

If you find yourself typing the same emails or explaining the same thing over and over, create templates instead.

A few ideas:

  • Canned email responses for FAQs

  • Pre-written social media captions
  • Client onboarding checklists

Better yet, set up Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for any repeatable task. These are simple step-by-step guides that you (or a team member) can follow, saving time and keeping things running smoothly.

Final Thought: Work Smarter, Not Harder

Automation doesn’t mean losing the human touch—it means focusing your energy where it matters most.

With the right systems in place, you can spend less time on admin and more time growing your business, supporting your clients and actually enjoying your work.

If you’re ready to streamline your operations but don’t know where to start, let’s chat. Book a free discovery call and we’ll create a plan to get your business running like clockwork.
